It’s a relatively well-known fact that March is for women…and for an African feminist magazine, well, it’s akin to Christmas time. What better way to celebrate women than by highlighting some of the success stories of a couple of popular and some not so popular women who are kicking the patriarchy’s ass. That being said, Santa has personally assigned me to deliver gifts in the form of the awe inspiring and motivating stories of these women, and while my above average height means I sadly cannot qualify for an elf, I can still be Santa’s not so little helper, Merry Christmas!
To kick off the list we have the stunning if not constantly controversial Kimberly Noel Kardashian and yes, her maiden name is Noel… formerly Kim Kardashian West.
The Kardashians are a household name for most people connected to the internet. While Kim’s ascent to fame came through means that have and will continue to mar her reputation, she says,
“I think as long as you learn from your mistakes, and don’t make them over and over again, you’re on the right path.”Kim Kardashian
It is incredibly safe to say that the business mogul cum billionaire has efficiently and repeatedly redeemed herself in the collective eyes of the internet. From starring in a porn video to pioneering a makeup, fragrance and skincare line as well as designing a shape wear and clothing brand to being a present mother of four…Kim has proven that you can indeed have it all, and then some.
While her popularity and that of her family skyrocketed during the airing of their reality show: Keeping up with the Kardashians, it was not the singular source of income for the socialite. If asked what phrase I’d use to best describe the 41 year old billionaire, I’d go with ‘jack of all trades’, I’d leave out the ‘master of none’ because her net worth argues to the contrary. After spending decades in the limelight as the girl famous for…well, being famous, having her ass mentioned in at least every rap song in the mid-2000s, Kim ventured into the makeup industry.
June of 2017 saw her launch her first contour kits under her conglomerate KKW Beauty. This was the beginning of many wins. Two years later she branched into another industry: shapewear, with the launch of her brand Skims in September 2019, the two business ventures have been so lucrative that they raised her net worth from 780 million dollars in 2020 to 1 billion dollars as of April 2021. Not about to stop there, Kim embarked on a four year law apprenticeship in 2019. And while she did fail the baby bar exam required to become a lawyer in the state of California, we have to give Kim her flowers for trying.
Even now, in light of her ongoing divorce from rapper Kanye West, she still manages to handle the situation with a lot of grace and class…of course said class would include spending over 100,000 dollars repainting her cars so they can match her house…and if that lone isn’t inspiring, I don’t know what is.
