Sexual violence in Kenya

It’s All Gender-Based Violence: Lets Review Kenya’s Generation Equality Roadmap to Ending GBV and FGM by 2026

Reading Time: 6 minutes Let’s Ask the Difficult Questions

Is it really possible to end GBV by 2026 and FGM by 2022? Of course not! In a country where the name feminism and gender equality sound like insults to women and men, how do we do that?

Second, where is these 23 million investments in gender equality and 1 million dollars in for research and innovation that Kenyatta promised?

How does Gemini Spice Magazine get it to advance women rights with the five-year plan we have designed? How does Sikimyii get it to create our GBV app and fund our research?

Pan African Women’s Day

Reading Time: 3 minutes This day is important for all women to acknowledge and celebrate because it represents the resilience of the women who fought for us to have a voice in this society. It’s because of those women that I can write this article. It’s because of those women that women were able to go to school. It’s because of those women that we participate and are represented in the societal processes of Africa. Thus, it remains upon us to continue laying the foundations for which the next generation of women will break this glass ceiling.

Prey In A Man’s World!

Reading Time: 6 minutes When I was founding Sikimyii in 2018, I talked to a friend at a conference we had both attended organized by the Commonwealth. I asked him to help me brainstorm on ideas. He was dealing with the plight of the Muslim and Somali-origin individuals who the government and some of us always brand as terrorists. He told me one thing I will never forget.
He asked, “who is raping women?” I said, “rapists.” He told me, “you are wrong, its men who are raping women.” And for a while I was dumbstruck. “so, talk to the men and tell them to stop raping women!”
