Now that you have landed a job interview,what next? Preparing for an interview is vital,so you don’t start squirming in your chair or biting your inner cheek to hide your stress as you try to come up with the ideal answers; You need to relax to ace it.

Joan the career coach advises candidates to get ready for the interview the night before by

  • making sure the outfit for the interview is ready,
  • checking out the exact location on google maps,
  • researching about the company and
  • practicing the interview questions and answers in front of a mirror.

That is why we have listed most asked 20 interview questions and answers. What a number of job applicants told us reflected this extremely closely. Take a look at the proportion of candidates who said the top five questions on our list were asked.

1.Tell me about yourself?

This is usually the first question and first impressions matter.Simply give a summary of your resume. State your role, responsibilities and what you learnt. 

 Example: “Sure, I’d be delighted. I’ve been a tech-focused project manager for the past 8 years.

I graduated from University X with a major in business administration and a minor in computer science, and I made the Dean’s List. Following that, I began my career as an administrative assistant at Company X. I worked there as a clerical assistant, assisting with interdepartmental communication, managing schedules, and maintaining the digital filing system.

After that, I spent about 6 years as a project manager for Company Y, which provided cloud computing solutions. There, I personally managed 5+ software project teams and ensured that everything ran smoothly in terms of business goals, deadlines, budget, and so on.

In my spare time, I like to read about AI, tech, and robotics. Since you guys do all 3, I thought I’d apply.”

2.Why did you leave your previous job/why do you want to leave your current job?

“When hunting for a new job, I suggest making a list of your reasons for leaving your previous position and arranging them in priority order. This will help you not only in answering this question but give you clarity on the direction of your career, and it might prevent new questions being asked.” Says Faith Chumo of Hadithi Consulting.

Example: I am seeking for better career opportunities, career development, and job prospects. You wish to change your job path. You want to take on new tasks at work or the company went out of business.

3.How did you hear about this position?

Appear excited when answering.Your potential employer wants you to be enthusiastic about the work you’ll be doing. Be specific about what caught your interest in the role. Describe yourself and your intention in detail. Do some name dropping and try not to be vague by giving one word answer.

Example: “I’m currently looking for a job and came across your job posting on LinkedIn when looking for Senior Engineer openings. Before applying, I examined the job description on LinkedIn and it sounded like a wonderful potential fit, so I wanted to apply and learn more about the position to see if it was a good fit.”

4.What are your strengths?

Use the job description to frame your answer.Make sure to emphasize your talents that are specified in the job description, as well as how you plan to acquire or enhance any crucial skills you lack.Your strengths and weaknesses should be in line with the role’s needs as suggested by Joan the career coach.

Example:”My strong point is my ability to connect with others. I can easily connect with practically anyone, and I frequently understand how to empathize with others in a suitable manner.”

5.What are your weaknesses?

“Never make a negative statement! Think about it for a minute and then say that you can’t think of any flaws that would jeopardize your performance at this work or have a negative influence on your ability to carry out the job’s tasks. “Joan

Example: “My greatest flaw is that I sometimes focus too much on projects and spend too much time examining the finer elements.” I’ve been working hard to improve in this area by checking in with myself at regular intervals and allowing myself to refocus on the broader picture. That way, I can still ensure quality without becoming so engrossed in the details that my productivity or the team’s ability to achieve the deadline suffers.” 

6.What did you like most/least about your last job?

Never ever say anything negative! Describe what you enjoyed most. Then explain that, while every job has its problems, you have been lucky enough to learn and improve professionally in each of your roles.

Example:“I love how the company offered learning opportunities and seemed to care about helping their employees develop and grow professionally. They had weekly lunch meetings where we’d learn a new topic, they offered tuition reimbursement, and all of the senior leadership team was very approachable and supportive.”

7.What are you currently doing?

The recruiter or employer is looking to see whether there is anything you’ve been doing that would be useful in the current position.

“This information would not be relevant in a senior Accounting job if you are currently unemployed but have a side job selling second-hand clothes.Any part-time or temporary work you’ve had should offer value to the job you’re looking for,” says Melody Mwendwa, an interview coach at Corporate Staffing Services.

 Example:I took some continuing education classes and seminars. I have also been volunteering at a local children’s home.

8.Are you a team player or do you prefer to work alone?

It all comes down to figuring out if you’re a team player or a lone wolf.

You don’t want to come off as an unhappy sod with no friends on the one hand, and you don’t want to sound like you can’t think for yourself on the other.

Example:”It is dependent on the work. When it comes to brainstorming, teams generate fantastic ideas with different input and may showcase people’s skills. But I also prefer working on my job as an individual, because in many ways, the capacity to work alone is required for the team to flourish.”

9.What do you find most rewarding about your position?

This question seeks to ascertain workplace priorities. Are you motivated by relationships and people-related achievements, or are you more concerned with sales and financial targets? Your response reveals a lot about you as a worker,advises Shade Zahrai.

Example:”My most satisfying experience was hiring and training five new employees for holiday seasonal personnel, all of whom evolved into great employees who were either retained on a part-time basis or called back on a regular basis for future hectic seasons.”

10.Tell me about a difficult situation you have faced?

The ideal strategy is to utilize a tough unpleasant event to demonstrate your emotional intelligence and professionalism.

Example:”A customer requested a major adjustment to their website just days before its launch in the first week of my internship. The team needed to stay late, but the manager stated I didn’t have to. Regardless, I chose to stay and assist the team. Despite the fact that I was untrained in the techniques they utilized, I offered to test the website. I double-checked every page until it was free of mistakes. Following that, the project manager agreed to incorporate me as a trainee in the following project.”

11.Tell me about your greatest achievement/disappointment in life?

Give an example from your own life,like putting yourself through college,then talk about your most notable professional accomplishment. On disappointments, offer a similar answer.

Example:”Generally, I’d say that I’m fairly content with the way my life and work have been progressing, therefore I really can’t think of any significant disappointments.”

12.Are you willing to put on a lot of extra time?

Here your attitude and honesty matters more than anything.

Example:”I’m willing to do so because I understand how busy things can be here at times, and we’ll have deadlines and monthly goals to accomplish. Of course, in an ideal world, I’d be able to complete my tasks during normal working hours. And you may rest assured that I have no intention of wasting time at work and will make every effort to avoid any distractions. However, I am aware that, despite my best efforts, I may be unable to meet some deadlines or simply complete the task. In such a circumstance, I am willing to work overtime.”

13.What are your long term and short term goals?

Ensure your short term and long term goals are related,says Faith

Example:”In the short term, I want to find a new job where I can use my talents and expertise to boost the company’s production and profitability.

Long term: Assume more responsibilities and make larger contributions to my employer over time.”

14.Why should we hire you/Why do you think you are the best candidate for this job?

The interviewer wants to know how you will add value to the organization and the role by asking why we should recruit you.Shade Zahrai recommends that you demonstrate understanding of the role by mentioning a handful of the attributes or skills stated that you have prior experience with. Then, using a concrete example, describe your prior experience before concluding with why you are excited about the position and the firm.

Example: I’m glad you asked. With over 15 years of agency leadership experience, I will bring my creative, motivational, and strategic marketing skills to your company’s client side. While I have no direct experience working in a corporate environment, in the agency where I’ve been a key stakeholder for over 20 years, I have delivered results that went above and beyond what my clients expected.

15.How do you deal with pressure or stressful situations?

The employer wants to know if you understand how stress affects you and how you deal with it.Because the interviewer does not want to hear that you are never stressed, you must be prepared to reply correctly. After all, everyone experiences stress at work at some point.

Example:’I stay motivated by thinking about the end result. I’ve found that even in the midst of a challenging situation, reminding myself of my goals helps me take a step back and stay positive.”

16.What motivates you?

Base your response on your basic principles as well as the values and priorities of the firm with whom you are interviewing.

Example:”I’ve always found that I work best in a creative environment where I can think freely, and working in graphic design allows me to use my creativity, which keeps me motivated and energized.”

17.How do you spend your spare time?

 Do not lie or overshare.

Example: “I enjoy going for a walk or a hike in the woods. As a market research analyst, I spend the majority of my days in front of a computer, which is obviously not ideal. That’s why, when I’m not at work, I try to limit my screen time to give my eyes and back the rest they deserve. In general, I enjoy being outside and moving when I am not working.”

18.What is your salary expectation?

The best answer is to give a salary range.

Example: “Based on my research and experience, I believe that 75-85 Thousands is typical based on the role and requirements.”

19.What else should we know about you?

Summerize your strength and previous accomplishments or stress your interest in the position.

Example: “Thank you for your inquiry. I simply want to express how excited I am for this chance. It’s especially enticing to me to have the opportunity to make a difference in our community through my profession.”

20.Do you have any questions for me?

Always have a set of prepared questions to ask.Below are some suggested by Joan the coach.

Examples: “What are the procedures for performance evaluations, and when will I receive my first formal evaluation?”

-”What would you like me to accomplish in my first two months if I were employed for this position?”

-”What are your concerns about my candidacy?”

-”Can you talk about company culture?”
